Job Summary

The Senior Diamond Jewellery Grader is responsible for the accurate grading, analysis, and quality verification of diamond jewellery submitted to the laboratory. The role involves evaluating mounted diamonds, identifying natural, laboratory-grown, treated and imitation diamonds, mentoring junior graders, and maintaining laboratory standards. The position requires advanced expertise in diamond grading, jewellery examination, and laboratory procedures. 


Key Responsibilities

  1. Diamond Grading & Analysis
  2. Grade mounted diamonds according to internationally accepted standards.
  3. Assess Colour and Clarity grades of mounted diamonds.
  4. Perform inclusion plotting and clarity analysis where applicable.
  5. Detect natural, laboratory-grown, treated, and imitation diamonds.
  6. Identify treatments such as fracture filling and coatings. 
  • Jewellery Examination
  • Examine diamond jewellery under magnification and advanced gemmological instruments.
  • Verify metal stamping, hallmarks, and product specifications where required.
  • Quality Control
  • Conduct secondary and final grading verification.
  • Review grading reports prepared by junior graders.
  • Resolve grading discrepancies and maintain grading consistency.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory SOPs and quality benchmarks. 
  • Documentation & Reporting
  • Prepare and validate grading reports and certification data.
  • Maintain accurate records within the laboratory management system.
  • Ensure complete documentation of observations and grading decisions.
  • Support technical investigations and customer queries regarding grading results.
  • Training & Leadership
  • Train and mentor junior diamond graders.
  • Conduct internal grading calibration sessions.
  • Assist in developing grading procedures and technical manuals.
  • Participate in competency assessments and skill development programs. 
  • Research & Development
  • Stay updated with emerging diamond treatments and laboratory-grown diamond technologies.
  • Assist in validation of new testing methods and instrumentation.
  • Contribute to laboratory knowledge databases.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate in any discipline.

Preferred Certifications

  • Diploma or certification in Diamond Grading/Gemmology.
  • Gemological Institute of America (GIA) Graduate Gemologist (GG) / Graduate Diamonds.
  • International Gemological Institute (IGI) Diamond Grading Certification.
  • Equivalent certification from recognized gemmological institutions.

Experience

  • 8-10 years of experience in diamond grading and jewellery grading.
  • Preferably, 2–3 years in a senior grading or quality-control role.
  • Experience working in a gemmological laboratory is preferred.
  • Proven expertise in grading mounted diamond jewellery.
