HISTORY

The Inspiring Story of IIGJ Lab

FOUNDATION

The foundation was set on 12th August 1972 under the Convenorship of (Late) Padmashri Khailshanker Durlabhji, founder Chairman of the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC).Today, it stands as one of the world’s most respected laboratories, providing trusted gemmological services to a global clientele.

EARLY RISE WITH TECHNOLOGY ADOPTION

During its formative years, the laboratory established its reputation through gemstone testing, identification, and continuous research. It prioritised both the examination of individual stones and the development of advanced methodologies to identify emerging gem materials, synthetics, and treatments as the industry evolved. The results of R&D are shared through participating in conferences and publications in various trade and gemmological journals.

IIGJ Lab’s USP: ADVANCE PROCESSES

The Jaipur facility operates under strict scientific guidelines to ensure the authenticity of gemstones and the disclosure of treatments. By combining state-of-the-art analytical techniques with expert data interpretation, the lab maintains the highest standards of integrity, preserving public trust in the gem and jewellery trade.

EVOLUTION OF IIGJ RLC

With time, this strong foundation evolved into the IIGJ Research & Laboratories Centre (RLC). The combination of GTL and IIGJ RLC reflected not only an expansion in services but also a broader vision, where decades of experience, scientific progress, and trained technical expertise came together to support the growing needs of the global gem and jewellery industry.

A NEW CHAPTER

Today, IIGJ Lab represents the unified legacy of its origin and its growth into a modern research hub. Backed by the GJEPC, it continues to serve as a cornerstone of expertise and reliability for the industry.
