GemCheck Service: Limited Disclosure Testing of Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald

GemCheck is a Limited Disclosure Testing Service that primarily identifies the gemstone species or variety and determines whether the gemstone is natural, laboratory-grown or a simulant.

The service has been designed for commercial quality Rubies, Sapphire and Emerald which may not require a detailed analysis for presence or absence of all type of treatments.

GemCheck service will offer cost-effective testing for eligible submissions and clear identification of natural versus synthetic material. The service will initially cover Ruby, Blue & Other Coloured Sapphires and Emeralds

Applicable to single gemstones-loose, mounted or strung.

While GemCheck does not include a comprehensive treatment investigation, the service will specifically screen for and disclose certain commercially significant treatments, including Dyeing, Glass Filling, Surface Diffusion and Coating, when detected.

What Does the GemCheck Report Include?

The GemCheck report primarily provides information about the identity and nature of the submitted gemstone, including:

  • Gemstone species or variety
  • Natural or laboratory-grown determination
  • Identification of a simulant or other relevant non-corundum/non-beryl material, where applicable
  • Screening for selected commercially significant treatments when detected
  • No comment about non-heated Rubies or Sapphires will be mentioned in report.

Following treatments will not be checked and disclosed under GemCheck Service: Heating, Flux-assisted Heating, Beryllium diffusion, Oiling / Resin filling or any other advanced treatment.

Report Format

The report will be concise and easy for commercial users to understand. Only a ‘post-card’ size report will be issued under this category of testing.
